What this app does
Fxpad answers “how much is this in my money?” without a connection. Tap “Refresh rates” once while you have internet and the rate table is saved on this device. From then on it converts on the plane or with roaming switched off, using that same table.
Rates come from Frankfurter, a free API that republishes the European Central Bank’s daily reference rates. A bank or exchange counter will quote something slightly different. There are no ads, no login, and no paid tier.
What is on the screen
- The amber strip at the top: a note that your data stays on this device.
- The status line: whether you are online or offline, whether the rates are fresh or cached, plus when they were pulled and which day they are for.
- The big amount box: type the number here. Commas and full-width digits are fine.
- The From and To chips: tap one to open a searchable list with flags and names. The round button between them swaps the pair.
- The green result box: the converted amount plus the one-unit rate in both directions, like “1 JPY = 8.71 KRW”.
- The “Refresh rates” button and the A / A+ / A++ text-size switch.
How to use it
Before you leave, open the app somewhere with Wi-Fi. When online it pulls rates on open and the status line shows when. To be sure, tap “Refresh rates” once more. Add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.
On the ground, just type the amount and pick the currencies. Opened in Korean, English or Chinese the To side starts on JPY; opened in Japanese the From side does. Your last amount and pair are still there next time.
What happens offline
When the network drops, the status line switches to “Offline” and “Using cached rates” and conversion carries on from the saved table. Closing the app or restarting the phone does not lose it. If you go offline before ever syncing, a red notice explains that one sync is needed while you have internet.

Why is the rate different from my bank?
Because these are the European Central Bank’s once-a-day reference rates. Banks, card issuers and exchange counters add their own margin and fees on top. Use it to gauge roughly what something costs, not for a transaction where the exact rate matters.
Are my amounts uploaded anywhere?
No. The rate table, your last amount, the pair and the text size stay in this browser on this device. The request to Frankfurter carries no amount or currency choice. There is no account and no sync.
Which currencies are covered? Any ads or paid tier?
JPY, KRW, USD, EUR, CNY, HKD, SGD, THB and the rest of the 30-odd currencies Frankfurter serves. Search the list by code or name. No ads, no login, no in-app purchase. It is a free tool that runs in the browser.
